Regulatory Information

Regulatory Information

RWS is an independent legal consultancy. It is not a solicitors' firm and is not authorised or regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

Ryan Williams is currently suspended from practice as a solicitor and does not practise as a solicitor through RWS.

RWS provides non-reserved legal consultancy services only. This can include legal analysis and advice, dispute strategy, document and evidence review, non-reserved drafting and correspondence, negotiation and settlement support, arbitration support and assistance in preparing matters for counsel or other authorised legal practitioners.

RWS does not undertake reserved legal activities. In particular, RWS does not conduct litigation or exercise rights of audience. Where a reserved step is required, that step must be undertaken by the client personally where the law permits, or by an appropriately authorised legal practitioner.

RWS is not an SRA-authorised firm and the regulatory protections which apply to services supplied through an SRA-authorised solicitors' firm do not apply to services provided by RWS.

Nothing on this website is intended to suggest that RWS is an SRA-regulated law firm or that Ryan Williams is currently practising as a solicitor.

Professional indemnity insurance

RWS does not currently maintain professional indemnity insurance.

RWS is not subject to the SRA's compulsory professional indemnity insurance requirements which apply to SRA-authorised firms.

Clients should take the absence of professional indemnity insurance into account when deciding whether to instruct RWS.

Working arrangements with authorised practitioners

An independent review for the client may be possible within RWS's non-reserved scope. Any proposed work with an existing legal team must be assessed before it begins.

Working for, being paid by, or working under the direction or supervision of a solicitor or regulated firm may require prior written SRA approval because of Ryan's suspension under section 41 of the Solicitors Act 1974. Where required, approval and its conditions must be in place before any such arrangement begins. Supervision or direct payment by the client does not automatically avoid that requirement.

Clients and their legal teams should not assume that a working arrangement is permissible without prior assessment. RWS will not enter into an arrangement that would require SRA approval without first obtaining it.

Claims management and FCA authorisation

RWS does not undertake regulated claims-management activities requiring FCA authorisation. The actual activity and any separate authorisation requirements must be assessed before acceptance.

This applies in particular to enquiries involving housing-disrepair claims, employment-related redress, and financial-services redress. If an enquiry falls within the FCA's claims-management perimeter, RWS will not accept the instruction without appropriate authorisation being in place.

Historical experience and testimonials

Some testimonials and historical material on this website refer to Ryan Williams as a solicitor and/or refer to work undertaken at previous law firms. Those references describe the position at the time the work was undertaken. They are reproduced as historical client feedback and do not describe Ryan's current practising status or the regulatory status of RWS.
