Selected Experience

Selected Experience

Ryan Williams' career has centred on disputes.

His previous legal practice covered commercial and property litigation, contentious probate, defamation and modern chancery work, including matters in the High Court and Court of Appeal. Through RWS, he now provides non-reserved advice, drafting, analysis and strategic support in disputes and arbitration.

The work described below includes experience gained during Ryan's previous roles at regulated law firms as well as work undertaken through RWS. Where court litigation is referred to, this includes historical experience and does not mean that RWS conducts litigation.

Clients and matters

Ryan's experience has included work for businesses, entrepreneurs, property owners, internationally based clients, ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families, and a foreign diplomatic mission.

That experience has included commercial, property, private-client, defamation and international disputes.

Previous firm roles

Ryan qualified as a solicitor in 2013. At TV Edwards, he established and led the litigation department as Head of Litigation. He was invited to apply for partnership and left the firm before taking up a partnership there. He subsequently held partner roles at SBP Law and Healys LLP.

Ryan also previously headed contentious probate at Lorrells LLP, TV Edwards, SBP Law and Healys LLP.

These roles and case examples describe Ryan's previous work at regulated law firms. RWS's current services are limited to non-reserved legal consultancy. The full position is explained on the Regulatory Information page.

Selected public case experience

Wiseman v Sullivan — libel, 2012

While a trainee at Lorrells LLP, Ryan worked for Stewart Wiseman in his libel claim against Colin Sullivan and instructed Jacob Dean of 5RB, now King's Counsel.

The claim concerned defamatory allegations displayed on a vehicle outside Mr Wiseman's home and office. The case settled after the trial had begun, with £50,000 in damages, an apology, an undertaking not to repeat the allegations and indemnity costs. It was reported in the press.

This was work undertaken at Lorrells before Ryan qualified in 2013.

Hanina v McSpadden and others — property dispute, 2017

Ryan worked on this County Court property dispute in Hampstead. The issues included parking rights, claimed rights over a communal bin store and the interpretation of property documents. The case was covered in the press during the hearing.

Jones v Persons Unknown [2026] EWCA Civ 1212 — the Kyrrex appeal

While at Healys LLP, Ryan acted for Kyrrex Limited in the proceedings which ultimately led to the Court of Appeal decision in Jones v Persons Unknown [2026] EWCA Civ 1212. His involvement included the first-instance challenge, the preparation and filing of Kyrrex's appeal, and work on the appeal after filing. When his suspension from practice took effect in February 2026, Ryan could no longer continue acting for Kyrrex as its solicitor in the proceedings and Kyrrex therefore instructed The Brooke Law Group LLP to take the appeal forward. Ryan did not act at the Court of Appeal hearing. The Court of Appeal allowed the appeal and set aside the relevant parts of the order.

RWS was not instructed in those proceedings.

Ahuja Investments Ltd v Victorygame Ltd [2021] EWHC 2382 (Ch)

Ryan worked on this commercial property litigation during his time at SBP Law. The case concerned allegations of misrepresentation and the terms of a loan agreement.

Mittal v Barclays Bank PLC and others [2026] EWHC 1029 (Ch)

Ryan previously acted for Mrs Sangeeta Mittal at Healys LLP in property proceedings against Barclays Bank and receivers. The matter involved constructive trust and estoppel issues. The published judgment concerns a hearing on 12 March 2026; Ryan's suspension from practice took effect in February 2026.

E-Clear (UK) Plc v Elia and others [2013] EWCA Civ 1114

Ryan worked on this matter during his time at Lorrells LLP. The case involved an appeal to the Court of Appeal.

R (Vuciterni and Alsat UK Ltd) v Brent Magistrates' Court and Brent and Harrow Trading Standards Service [2012] EWHC 2140 (Admin)

Ryan worked on this judicial review matter during his time at Lorrells LLP.

These examples describe Ryan's previous work at regulated law firms. RWS's current services are limited to the non-reserved consultancy work described on this website. Please read the Regulatory Information for Ryan's current status and the limits of the service.

Areas of experience

01

Commercial and contractual disputes

Commercial disputes rarely turn on one point alone. The contract matters, but so do the documents, what happened in practice, the parties' objectives and the cost of pursuing the argument.

Ryan's experience includes contractual disputes, disputed payments, alleged breaches, misrepresentation and disputes arising when business relationships break down.

02

Shareholder, partnership and joint venture disputes

Disputes between people who once went into business together can become difficult very quickly.

Experience includes disagreements over contractual obligations, control, management, financial interests and the breakdown of shareholder, partnership and joint venture relationships.

03

Property disputes

Ryan has dealt with a wide range of commercial and residential property disputes, including landlord and tenant matters, possession and forfeiture issues, service charges, property damage, disrepair and disputes over ownership and occupation.

Property cases often cut across contract, property law and procedure. Looking at the whole dispute, rather than one isolated issue, is often essential.

04

Contentious probate, trusts and family wealth disputes

Ryan Williams previously headed contentious probate at Lorrells LLP, TV Edwards, SBP Law and Healys LLP.

Disputes over estates and family assets can be legally complicated and personally difficult at the same time.

Ryan's experience includes disputes concerning wills, estates, executors, beneficial interests and family arrangements, with particular attention to whether an early resolution can avoid unnecessary cost and further damage to relationships.

05

Arbitration and cross-border disputes

RWS assists with commercial arbitration and disputes with an international element.

That work can include strategy, contractual and jurisdictional issues, tribunal appointment, procedural correspondence, evidence, settlement discussions and preparation for hearings.

06

Urgent disputes and interim relief

Ryan's previous litigation practice included matters requiring urgent court applications and interim protection.

RWS can help analyse the position, identify the evidence that matters and prepare the case before an appropriately authorised practitioner deals with any reserved litigation step.

07

Negotiation, mediation and settlement

Not every dispute should be fought to the end.

RWS helps clients assess offers, prepare for negotiations and mediation, and decide when continuing the fight makes sense and when a negotiated result is the better outcome.

A note about previous experience
